Apple iPhone Duo: Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Brings a New Dimension to the iPhone
Apple is stepping into the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo, introducing a completely new form factor to the iPhone lineup. Designed to combine the portability of a traditional smartphone with the larger viewing area of a tablet, Apple iPhone Duo features a foldable design, a large inner display, new multitasking experiences, and Apple’s latest hardware and software technologies.
The iPhone Duo will be available for pre-order starting at 8:00 AM EST on October 16, with availability beginning October 23.
1. A New Foldable iPhone Design
The defining feature of iPhone Duo is its foldable design. When opened, Apple says it is the thinnest iPhone yet and features the largest display ever offered on an iPhone.
The device can be used in multiple orientations, including open, closed, landscape and portrait positions. It can also stand on its own, allowing users to make hands-free FaceTime calls, watch content or record videos without holding the phone.

2. 7.6-inch Inner Display
At the centre of the experience is a 19.26 cm (7.6-inch) Super Retina XDR display. Apple says the inner screen is 50% larger than the display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The inner display also hides the FaceTime camera beneath the screen, creating a more uninterrupted viewing area.
3. iOS 27 Designed for a Foldable iPhone
The foldable form factor is closely integrated with iOS 27, allowing the interface to adapt as users move between the inner and outer displays.
One of the key features is Split View multitasking. Users can, for example, browse their Photos library on one side of the display while dragging an image directly into Mail on the other.
The different viewing positions also open up new ways to use the iPhone. Users can watch videos at an angle, use StandBy mode, or position the device upright for hands-free calls and recording.
4. Dual 48MP Camera System
Apple Duo features a dual-camera system consisting of a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera.
48MP Fusion Main
Designed to deliver high-resolution photography and video capture.
48MP Fusion Ultra Wide
Provides a wider perspective for photography and creative content.
Apple has also introduced several camera features designed specifically around the foldable form factor.

4K Video: Supports recording at up to 120 fps, Cinematic mode, 4K Dolby Vision time-lapse and low-light video recording.
A 12MP Center Stage front camera is also included, while an under-display FaceTime camera is integrated into the inner display.
5. A20 Pro Chip Powers the Experience
Under the hood, iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, paired with a Dual 16-core Neural Engine.

The device also uses an advanced thermal-management system with a vapour chamber, designed to help maintain performance during demanding workloads such as gaming and AI-powered applications.
6. Dual-Battery System
The foldable design requires a different approach to internal components, and Apple has developed an iPhone-first dual-battery system for iPhone Duo.
Apple says the combination of the dual-battery architecture, space-saving eSIM design and its C2 modem helps maximise available internal space while improving efficiency.

8. Connectivity and Safety Features
The device also includes Apple’s safety features, including Crash Detection and Find My. With Crash Detection, the iPhone can detect a severe car crash and call for help when the user is unable to do so.
9. A New Direction for the iPhone
With iPhone Duo, Apple is moving beyond the conventional smartphone design that has defined the iPhone for years. The combination of a foldable body, large inner display, and software designed around multiple orientations gives Apple a new platform for multitasking, entertainment, photography, and communication.
